I do not want to start a help page here as I do not have the time to offer this kind of service. Tips for Computer Users. Always ensure that you protect your computer from some of the unsavory aspects of the internet by using a firewall, anti-virus software, and a spyware removal program. You can find information on these applications below and where you can download free versions of each software. FIREWALL - Gateway that limits access between networks in accordance with local security policy. A firewall will block unwelcome access to your computer from the internet. ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE - Antivirus software is a type of application you install to protect your system from viruses, worms and other malicious code. Most antivirus programs will monitor traffic while you surf the Web, scan incoming email and file attachments and periodically check all local files for the existence of any known malicious code. Click here for a selection of free Anti-Virus Software Recommended: It is best to invest some money here and ensure you get the continued protection for your computer. Use a reputable company, who issue regular updates to ensure a constant high level of protection. There are many to choose from like Norton, McAfee, Trend, and Zone Alarm.
SPYWARE - Any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. These spyware applications will impact on your bandwidth, thus reducing your connection speed to the internet.
